Accountant - U.S. Multi-Family


Reporting indirectly to the Controller and directly to the Senior Accountant the Accountant will be responsible for the financial operations of various properties and responsible for providing accurate information, including analysis of variances to budget, managing cash flows at the property level and assisting with the preparation of financial statements and reports to management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing the accounting operations at the properties, including the detailed review of the work of the Junior Accountants
  • Detailed review and preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each property
  • Generation of reports of performance against budgets, and review and analysis of the variances from budget
  • Work with external auditors, including the preparation of audit working papers and assistance with financial statement information to the Controller
  • Preparation of information to assist with the quarterly financial statements and assisting with preparation of MD&A
  • Detailed review of monthly cash distributions from the property managers to ensure accuracy
  • Responsible for managing cash flow at the property level and payment of mortgages, insurance, property taxes, etc
  • Responsible for certain reconciliations, such as due to sellers, and other complex reconciliations and accounting treatments in accordance with IFRS
  • Responsible for preparing journal entries to account for acquisitions of properties, dispositions of properties, refinancing of mortgages, etc
  • Special projects as required, including carve out audits


  • University degree in Business/Accounting with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (such as CPA, CGA) preferred or having completed all requirements with the exception of practical work experience for the CPA program
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applications
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.  Knowledge of Yardi 7S is desired
  • We are an approved CPA training office, so need to be willing to work closely with staff to teach them and train them, as they work toward obtaining the CPA designation
