Senior Corporate Accountant

Overview

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller and indirectly to the Executive Director of Finance, the Corporate Accountant is responsible for the following:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of corporate bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of HST returns on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis for various corporate entities
  • Recording all monthly/quarterly invoicing of asset management fees, acquisition fees and related charge-backs
  • Recording all monthly departmental expense allocations in accordance with the corporate budget
  • Reconciling accounts receivable on a monthly basis and prepare a monthly reporting package for review
  • Reconciling and recording various intercompany transactions
  • Reconciling and recording all corporate credit card entries. Communicating with senior management to obtain all relevant back up relating to credit cards
  • Reviewing employee expense reports and ensuring receipts are in compliance with company policy
  • Reviewing and reconciling various GL accounts
  • Assistance with preparing financial statements and responding to auditor’s queries
  • Assistance with preparation of the annual budget as well as preparation of monthly reporting packages to each department with relevant variance analysis
  • Assistance with preparation of invoices to various stakeholders (Corporate Expenses, Asset Management Fees, Acquisition Fees, etc.)
  • Assistance with cash flow management – daily, weekly, and monthly cash requirements reports
  • Assistance with the preparation of an in-house tax return program and preparation of basic corporate returns
  • Assistance with insurance reconciliations for various ownership groups
  • Assistance with insurance renewals for corporate vehicles
  • Assistance with projects such as such as records retention projects, dissolutions of nominee corporations, and contacting and responding to tax authorities
  • Assistance with various other ad-hoc projects for the Corporate Controller and/or Executive Director of Finance as they arise

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree (preferred)
  • CPA designation an asset. Consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the CPA CFE
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and ASPE
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ work experience in an accounting role. Real estate and/or asset management an asset
  • Experience with various tax laws and remitting and filing requirements
  • Accounting software experience; YARDI an asset
  • Excel (V-look up and pivot tables); high level of proficiency required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze large amounts of data
  • Detail oriented with respect to journal entries and data entry
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentations for senior management
  • Ability to identify problems and present solutions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Confidentiality and diplomacy. 
  • Works well independently and in a team environment
  • Dependable and willing to meet deadlines and work overtime as required
