Accounting Manager

Overview

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is a key member of the Canadian Residential Finance team. The Accounting Manager manages the month end close and is responsible for review of the property manager (PM) reporting packages and cash calls. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for review of the financial analyst’s journal entries and account reconciliations including month end and non-recurring transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accounting supervision of the outsourced commercial property managers to ensure the accurate and efficient month-end reporting. This includes but is not limited to the review of bank reconciliations and ensuring all balance sheet accounts are fully supportable.
  • Responsible for communications with the PMs, to ensure they are reporting on time and accurately.
  • Review and approve month and year end journal entries.
  • Review the work of the financial analysts and senior financial analysts.
  • Responsible for acquisition/​disposition accounting entries
  • Responsible for the review and approval of the monthly cash calls from the PMs
  • Prepare/​review cash flow projections on a regular basis and present to management.
  • Responsible for reviewing wires to pay the monthly cash calls, and setting up other wires, as necessary.
  • Responsible for cash transfers between the PM accounts, as required.
  • Liaise with Asset Management to complete the month end process by ensuring finance has complete and accurate information.
  • Quarterly preparation/​review of asset management presentations for institutional investors
  • Collaborate with Asset Management for the review of quarterly reforecasts and annual budgets to ensure forecasts are attainable and reflective of current targets.
  • Review covenant reporting to lenders
  • Review of actual to budget variances for various items in the income statement and provide details as to the reasons for variances.
  • Preparation of the year end working papers for the auditors, and responsible for assisting the auditors during both interim and year end visits
  • Responsible for review and filing of HST returns.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the share service finance team (Core Finance) in migrating the operational accounting of Canadian Commercial finance with the rest of the business lines.
  • Perform special projects to assist the Director of Finance, as required.

Note: This position will initially be based in the Canadian Commercial department to provide a solid foundation in our Canadian Commercial financial cycle. However, there is a potential for a future transfer to the CORE Finance team, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to our Centre of Reporting Excellence at the Canadian Commercial and Residential levels. Requirements

  • Finance and Accounting Degree
  • 5 – 7 years accounting and finance experience
  • CPA, CMA or CPA,CGA
  • Accounting software, YARDI an asset
  • Excel (V‑look up and pivot tables); high level proficiency required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, assertive, able to initiate and implement new methods 
  • Strong follow-up skills and able to deal with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Works well independently and in a team environment
  • Task-oriented and will do what is needed to get job done (able to work overtime as required)
