Senior Communications Manager

Overview

The Senior Manager of Communications is a strategic partner responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances Starlight Investments’ profile. Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing, the role will develop and implement communication strategies for the organization to ensure unified, consistent, and impactful messaging that define and promote Starlight’s company purpose — Invest with Impact. The role will work closely with key stakeholder groups to bolster Starlight’s profile as a global leader in sustainable real estate investing through media relations, thought leadership initiatives, award submissions, external communications, partnerships and more. This is a great opportunity for an experienced communications expert looking to make a meaningful impact at one of Canada’s leading real estate companies. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safeguard and enhance Starlight Investments corporate brand through meticulous management of our brand communications strategy, narratives, and CSR initiatives. 
  • Support in the development and execution of comprehensive corporate communication strategies and subsequent annual communications plans, in collaboration with cross-functional teams, Public Relations Agency and Government Relations consultants. 
  • Create style guides, communication templates, and other tools that maintain a cohesive brand image for our corporate entities and across our portfolio of assets. 
  • Develops a wide range of communication materials including key messages, briefing notes, press releases, Q&As, newsletters, presentations, speaking notes, videos, digital/​social media content and marketing materials including award submissions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to secure positive media coverage and assist in managing crisis communication on an ad hoc basis.
  • Drive development, with agency support, of all public relations materials including briefing documents, press releases, media alerts, pitches, communications plans and speaking proposals.
  • Manage social media channels (e.g. LinkedIn) and online presence to enhance brand visibility and build community.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders on matters related to Starlight’s brand ensuring consistent and compelling messaging both externally and internally.
  • Effectively allocate and manage budgets for communications, partnerships and media-related initiatives to maximize the impact.
  • Oversee portfolio-wide and property-level surveys from set-up to deployment through to reporting on an ad-hoc basis in partnership with consulting partners. 
  • Evaluate results to assess success and inform campaign development and performance. 
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, including competitor activity, and provide recommendations.

Requirements

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree (Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, Business) or equivalent experience working in a matrixed multi-national or global organization.
  • You have 6+ years of progressive experience in public relations, government relations and/​or a communications position.
  • You have a proven track record of successfully executing PR campaigns and developing media relations strategies.
  • You have a proven ability to build healthy internal relationships at all levels, across internal functions.
  • You have a fluency in PR measurement and analytics.
  • You communicate clearly in both speech and writing.
  • You have strong project management skills with ability to prioritize and manage expectations across multiple, complex projects/​priorities/​issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are highly responsive, flexible and able to thrive in an agile environment, while possessing a strong level of comfort with ambiguity.
  • You’re passionate about building brands, love solving problems and getting things done. 
  • You sweat the details.
  • Real Estate industry experience is a plus. 
  • Proficient in MS Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Canva design.
