Overview

We’re looking for a sharp, driven FP&A Analyst who is early in their career but already obsessed with financial modeling, data, and investment performance. This is a high-visibility role for someone early in their career who wants to develop deep FP&A expertise within a sophisticated real estate investment platform. You will be a trusted financial partner to our asset management, analytics and investment teams, translating data into the clear, well-structured analysis that drives operational and investment decisions. Experience in the real estate industry is a strong asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Assist on behalf of finance with the annual budgeting process and periodic re-forecasts by partnering with asset management, analytics, core finance, investments and third-party property management teams in a collaborative manner.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly financial reports & analysis including variance to budget analysis — revenue, expenses, NOI, and key financial drivers — delivering clear, actionable commentary to senior stakeholders.
  • Support the monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting across the portfolio.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously enhance financial models, rolling forecasts, and long-range plans across the Canadian multi-family portfolio.
  • Ensure KPIs / financial and operational reporting evolve with changes in market or operating conditions to highlight key opportunities.
  • Prepare executive-level financial reports, investor presentations, and strategic planning documents that translate complex data into concise, decision-ready insights.
  • Collaborate with the CAPEX team to track and report on capital expenditure programs, supporting return analysis and budget adherence across projects.

Business Intelligence:

  • Design and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards that provide asset managers, investment managers, and senior leadership with real-time visibility into portfolio and asset-level performance.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of financial and operational KPIs in close collaboration with the data team.
  • Identify areas where actions/accountability are required to improve financial performance and deliver key initiatives
  • Streamline and automate reporting workflows, reducing manual effort and improving the speed and reliability of financial outputs.
  • Enable business partners to self-serve on BI tools — building financial literacy and data accessibility across the organization.

AI & Change Management:

  • Proactively identify opportunities to integrate AI tools and automation into FP&A processes — from modelling and forecasting to reporting and data management.
  • Pilot and implement AI-assisted workflows, bringing a continuous improvement mindset to how the finance function operates.
  • Partner with data and technology teams to build scalable, forward-looking analytical infrastructure that keeps Starlight ahead of the curve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; CPA or CFA designation (or active pursuit) is a plus.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in FP&A, financial analysis, or investment analytics — real estate or asset management experience is a strong advantage.
  • Elite Excel skills: you build models from scratch, stress-test assumptions, and automate workflows without being asked.
  • Solid grasp of real estate and investment finance concepts — NOI, IRR, cap rates, DCF, leverage, asset-level vs. portfolio-level performance.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools; comfort working with large datasets and imperfect data.
  • Genuinely excited about AI and automation — you’ve already started experimenting and can’t stop thinking about what’s possible.
  • Clear, confident communicator who can present financial insights to senior stakeholders and investment professionals with conviction.
  • High-energy, detail-obsessed, and motivated by the fast pace of a growing investment platform. You bring a builder’s mindset and aren’t afraid of extra innings when the work matters.
