Junior Accountant, Development Finance

Overview

Reporting to the Manager and/​or indirectly to the Controller, the Junior Accountant is responsible for the accounting for various entities. This includes preparing journal entries, monthly construction draw reconciliations, variance analysis, year-end audit inquiries, and assisting with the preparation of quarterly investor financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Detailed preparation of monthly construction draws for lenders and reconciliation of funds received
  • Document the current processes and procedures of development finance for the Canadian and UK business lines
  • Assist in automating certain processes and procedures
  • Assist in preparing requested purchase orders, change orders, invoice processing and budget revisions, as required
  • Work with the development and construction managers to understand their budgets and ensure the accuracy of their purchase order requests
  • Prepare and analyze variance analysis on project’s budgeted costs to actual costs 
  • Assist in preparing the information for the quarterly investor reporting 
  • Other tasks assigned by the Accounting Manager or Controller, as required

Requirements

  • Working toward a University degree in accounting or finance
  • Working toward a CPA designation
  • Understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • At least one co-op/summer work term of experience preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills. 
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
