Construction Safety Inspector, Health and Safety


Overview

As a member of the Health and Safety department, the Construction Safety Inspector will be responsible for inspecting construction sites for compliance. The Safety Inspector will audit construction sites, recommend and follow-up with contractors on corrective actions, based on provincial Regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of construction sites for regulatory compliance and identify contraventions to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Monitor Contractor Health and Safety Management Systems by measuring contractor compliance to requirements, safeguards identified in various documents (regulations, SWPs, specifications, SDS, manufacturer’s instructions, etc.)
  • Prepare reports on health and safety observations, compliance, and non-compliance.
  • Monitor the projects with MLTSD Correspondence and track contractor responses and compliance.
  • Ensure the workers have proper levels of safety training and qualifications for sites.
  • Appropriately escalate key Health & Safety issues to Health & Safety Manager and leadership team.
  • Review contractor safety performance to develop trends, statistics and action plans. Generate internal reports on contractors for safety statistics.
  • Use audit results to develop an Action Plan for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend contractor disciplinary action.
  • Conduct, document, and report all require monthly and annual safety audits.
  • Collaborate with CapEx and Energy Departments, site personnel, and HS Manager to ensure safety objectives are being met.
  • Travel to various sites across Ontario.
Requirements
  • Post- Secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline of Health, Safety and Environment
  • NCSO Designation is required
  • 3-5 years experience in the Construction Industry
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA and Regulations with advanced knowledge and experience in the Construction Regulations
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and vehicle required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Energetic, goal oriented, enthusiastic and a positive attitude
  • Proven safety leadership experience with the ability to motivate
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in monitoring construction sites for Health and Safety compliance
