Director, Investments, U.S. Multi-Family


Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Investments, the Director, Investments is responsible for managing the analysis, due diligence, underwriting, and execution of investment and disposition opportunities across Starlight’s US multi-family portfolio; assisting in deal sourcing and structuring; building and maintaining a strong understanding of market dynamics and relationships in target markets; and working with the Finance team on financings; as well as other strategic initiatives as required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead a team through the analysis of investment opportunities from initial high-level concept analysis through to detailed financial analysis for strategic review by the Vice President, Investments and President, US Residential
  • Accountable for due diligence, financial modeling, preparation/review of investment memos/documents, and execution for new investments 
  • Prepare any other relevant reporting and/or strategic analysis, as required from time to time
  • Assist in sourcing new opportunities, by staying up to date with market dynamics in target markets and building/maintaining broker relationships.
  • Work with the Asset Management team to develop pre-acquisition business plans and budgets that are achievable
  • Prepare acquisition pipeline reports 
  • Coordinate dispositions of assets
  • Work with the Finance team on financings of new acquisitions, ensuring effective communication with lenders.
  • Management of day-to-day activities, workflow and mentorship of direct reports
Requirements
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in transaction underwriting and due diligence
  • Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business Administration or similar education. 
  • Early experience in Investment Banking, considered an asset
  • Self-starter with high degree of personal accountability
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving skills and judgement
  • Client focused with strong relationship building, communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to obtain results in a highly demanding environment.
  • Able to handle multiple demands and manage tight deadlines.
  • Able to execute on projects involving interdisciplinary teams. 
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office with advanced skills on Excel. 
  • Overtime is required.
